ABSTRACT
Mud pebbles and mud balls occur near wadi-mouths and in recent flood deposits of the ephemeral streams of the southern coastal plain of Israel. They originate mainly as scree in the lee of the clayey wadi-banks, which collapse during the drought-periods. The initial sorting and sphericity are often fair, presumably because the collapse of the banks is controlled by mudcracks. The size-distribution and shape parameters change with time and depend on the duration of exposure and on climatic conditions during the exposure.
