Abstract
Scanning Electron Microscopic Examination of Periglacial Eolian Sands from Long Island, New York: NOTES
David Krinsley, Lillian Cavallero
ABSTRACT
A sand deposit in Nassau County, Long Island, New York has been determined as Pleistocene rather than Cretaceous in age by the use of scanning electron microscopy. Additionally, using the same techniques, a method has been established for distinguishing periglacial eolian sands in the fossil record from other types of glacial and eolian deposits. A series of events representing several glacial, several eolian and at least one solution episode has been noted on a sand sample from the same locality.
