Abstract
Experimental Investigation of the Effects of Grain Coatings on Quartz Growth: NOTES
C. B. Cecil, M. T. Heald
ABSTRACT
The effects of coatings on secondary quartz growth were studied experimentally using naturally coated sand grains and quartz plates coated with iron oxide, calcium carbonate and various clay minerals. The results of the experiments indicate that grain coatings will prevent the formation of secondary quartz and thus are effective in preserving porosity.
