Abstract
Bulk Volume Reduction and Pressure-Solution Derived Cement
Ronald W. Manus, Alan H. Coogan
ABSTRACT
The degree of bulk volume reduction accompanying pressure solution has been investigated by simple geometric models. Implications drawn from this investigation suggest that significant amounts of bulk volume reduction must accompany significant pore reduction or the generation of cement by the pressure-solution mechanism. The preservation of primary sedimentary features, which is inconsistent with significant bulk volume reduction, in many so called pressolved sands suggests that pressure solution may not be as common as generally thought.
