Feeding Sea Birds as a Factor in Lamellibranch Valve Sorting Patterns

ABSTRACT
Excesses of right or left lamellibranch shell valves have been generally ascribed to unique hydraulic responses to wave processes. Observations on feeding oyster-catchers suggests that these sea birds may be responsible for apparent valve excesses in some lamelli-branch species.
