Abstract
Influence of Coatings on Quartz Cementation
M. T. Heald, R. E. Larese
ABSTRACT
Coatings of chlorite, illite, hematite, chert or carbonate on quartz grains may inhibit quartz cementation. Although these coatings do not always prevent formation of overgrowths, they commonly cause the growths to form with unique features. Recognition of these features may furnish an important clue in locating areas where coatings have been the main factor in preserving high porosity.
