Derivation of Fragmentary Oolites and Pisolites from Desiccation Cracks

D. R. Adeleye

ABSTRACT

Fragmentary oolites and pisolites do not necessarily indicate high energy conditions of deposition. They can readily form through weak impacts of desiccation-cracked grains under relatively low energy conditions. The similarity between the fragmentary grains and portions of oolites and pisolites bounded by desiccation cracks seems to suggest that the former are products of desiccation-cracking of oolites and pisolites.
