Abstract
Small Scale Sedimentary Structures Resulting from Foot Impressions in Dune Sands
D. W. Lewis, D. G. Titheridge
ABSTRACT
Small scale deformation structures are illustrated from well sorted, evenly laminated, fine aeolian dune sands. Vertical stress on moist sands results in differential compaction, cohesion through the influence of surface tension, and the production of structures that can resist deflation. The specific structures described are humanoid traces, but analogues produced by the feet of animals could be preserved in fossil dunes and be confused with inorganic structures.
