Abstract
Seismic Reservoir Characterization of a Deep Wilcox Gas Field: An Example from South Texas
Abstract
Understanding the reservoir is critical to the success of any E&P project. The use of seismically derived lithology, porosity, and fluid information can result in the early characterization of the reservoir. The use of well control to calibrate the seismic character enhances the understanding of me reservoir.
The following case study will review the history of a recent deep gas field in the Wilcox trend of South Texas. Wells are drilled to a total depth of 16,000 feet; require large fracture stimulation and the cost of a completed well are high. Reservoir characterization using seismically derived rock properties (SDRP) will be discussed and compared to well results.
Successful exploration in the Wilcox requires an understanding of diverse factors; reservoir, structure, and economics. SDRP provides information about key reservoir parameters that can be integrated into the exploration and, hopefully, development program.
