Image - Rays and the Treatment of Inhomogeneity in Migration
The main object of this paper is to review progress in the treatment of inhomogeneity in wave-equation migration processes. A further object is to present some heuristic rules, using image-ray tracing, to enable the practicing geophysicist to diagnose problems caused by a laterally inhomogeneous velocity distribution. Finally an algorithm and a FORTRAN program will be presented to facilitate the use of these rules.
