Exploration History and Status of Hydrocarbon Exploration of Cauvery Basin with Particular Reference to Occurrence of Oil & Gas and Their Relationship to Depositional System in Paleogene and Cretaceous

P. K. Chandra, S. Venkataraman

Abstract

This paper discusses the exploration history and the present status of hydrocarbon exploration in Cauvery basin. It briefly summarises the tectonics, stratigraphy and geological history, as brought out by total basin study of the area. The study has brought out the Cretaceous and Paleogene turbidites are the exploratory targets and the western part of the depressions hold comparatively better promise because of the tilts and basin suffered at the time of hydrocarbon migration.
