Anamalous Low Previous HitResistivityNext Hit Tipam Sands of Assam India and their Observed Petrophysical Aspects

Formation evaluation of low Previous HitresistivityNext Hit fresh water sands of Assam, India is a complex problem. The poor Previous HitresistivityNext Hit contrast and at times reverse Previous HitresistivityNext Hit contrast between hydrocarbon and adjacent water bearing layers have further complicated the case. Available logging methods have made very little headway in the identification & evaluation of hydrocarbons in these sands. The paper discusses the effect of clay & clay coating in fresh water on the formation factor ‘F’ saturation exponent ‘n’ & their consequences.

This paper emphasises that a comprehensive core study can help in better understanding of reservoir and thus making a room for the development of a suitable interpretation model. Similar type of study in every reservoir of its kind may further help in building a unified approach for solving such typical reservoir problem.

It has been observed that ‘n’ attains a surprisingly low value at Previous HitapparentNext Hit formation water salinity. The Archie’s F-Ø relation is vitiated at such fresh water salinity. The cause of poor to reverse Previous HitresistivityTop contrast and anomalous petrophysical inter-relationship is attributed to the enhanced role of clay, clay coating in fresh water sands, and possibly to the microporosity to some extent.
