Management of Subsurface Uncertainties During Phase I Development of the D35 Field, Offshore Sarawak, Malaysia

George F. Canjar

Abstract

This report covers the way in which the significant subsurface uncertainties faced in the initial development of the D35 oil field, offshore Sarawak were managed. The uncertainties range from sand and fluid distribution to formation evaluation and inflow prediction. The discussion progresses from drainage planning to first production and highlights the potential impact of the uncertainties, how they were mitigated and initial results. It is not intended as an exhaustive review of specific discipline applications but rather an extraction of salient points to aid in future development planning and highlight the lessons learned in the process.
