New Insight into the Petroleum System in the East Java — South Makassar Area.

Kjell Bugge Johansen

Abstract

Most of the South Makassar area in East Java is under-explored to non- explored. A significant part of the dry wells can be explained as, a result of charge problems (migration distance, timing of Previous HitmaturationTop versus structuring) and lack of valid reservoir. Most of the Kujung platfroms have chaotic seismic character and poorly developed reefs. Development of platform carbonates continued from Lower Kujung time to Upper Miocene — Pliocene. Three areas have been high graded as a result of the interpretation. These are the platform areas to the north of the Pagerungan Gas Field, the Southern Sub-Basin and the South Makassar Basin. The South Makassar area is believed to have a significant remaining hydrocarbon potential.
