Unlocking the Potential: Exploration Opportunities in New Zealand

Mark Alprantis

Abstract

New Zealand is a vast continent with many potential hydrocarbon basins. The political landscape has changed, the government has restarted data acquisition initiative, the Resource Management Act is being streamlined and the carbon tax is being reviewed. New Zealand is a great place to weather the economic storm with a sound and flexible banking system, the monetary policy is being loosened and the falling industry costs are reflected by increased in exploration activity. 2D and 3D seismic activity and drilling activities continue to increase. New discoveries are being made and fields are being developed like the Maari Oil Field and the Tui Oil Field. Blocks of average are currently being offered over two basins; Northland and Raukumara.
