Thailand Blocks L7/50 & L13/50: High Impact — Low Cost
Abstract
The Nakhon Thai Ranges fold-belt play has the same regional geology as the Phy Horm play. Reservoir targets include the Permian Khao Khwang carbonate platform and the Lower and Upper Carboniferous carbonates. The massive units of limestones in the Lower Carboniferous are overlain by the Khorat Group. Source rocks include Triassic lacustrine shales with 38% TOC, Carboniferous marine shales with 1.1% TOC and Permian deep marine shales with 0.5% TOC. Seismic in the area is improving but dynamite lines are still needed. The seismic shows a sedimentary section below the Khorat Group and there was closure before gas generation. There are 6 major leads in the L7/50 and L13/50 blocks overlain by surface anticlines.
