Advances in Seismic Imaging — Impact on Exploration through Production in Fractured Basement Reservoir Block 15-1, Offshore Vietnam
Abstract
Block 15-1 is located at the northern end of the Cuu Long Basin off the coast of Vietnam. 5 primary deformation events have effected the Cuu Long Basin. 2 compressive phases occurred in the late Jurassic- early Cretaceous followed by the main rifting phase during the Paleogene. The extension direction orientated NW-SE and is responsible for the NE-striking horst-graben architecture of the Basin. 2 important compressive events were followed in the lake Oligocene and Neogene. Reservoir quality in the basement reservoir is directly linked to the fracture development, which can be highly variable in any given oil field. Regional fracture zones are usually predicted based on the regional tectonic stress field that impacted the basement.
