Deepwater Potential of the NW Palawan Basin Philippines

Gran McMurtrie, Ric Jason, Cori Lambert, Jon Pattillo

Abstract

The deepwater NW Palawan Basin, Phillipines hold potential for Previous HithydrocarbonNext Hit exploration. Exploration in SC 58 is targeting the top Nido Limestone in the Balyena and Butanding Prospects. Geochemical analyses of seabed core samples indicate widespread thermogenic microseepage. Biomarkers suggest affinities to more oxic and land plant influenced oils, as opposed to carbonate sourced oils. Biomarker maturity Previous HitindicatorsNext Hit suggest a maturity of ~1.2% Ro, within the condensate window. These results e-risk the deepwater play fairway with respect to Previous HithydrocarbonTop source and charge, and combined with large multi-reservoir closures highlights the exploration potential in the Outboard Palawan Basin.
