Abstract
The Outlook for Energy: A View to 2040
Abstract
The world's population is expected to rise by 25% to nearly 9 billion people by 2040. The global energy demand is expected to rise by about 35% from 2010 to 2040. Natural gas is the fastest growing major fuel source with demand expected to rise by over 65% from 2010 to 2040. In 2000 unconventional gas was a 'niche market', Asia Pacific has about 73% of the global LNG trade and the business climate and infrastructure access fostered North American and Australian gas development. By 2010 unconventional production reaches almost 10% of global supplies and the global LNG trade has doubled with Asia Pacific accounting for roughly 60%. The global unconventional gas development will continue and the Asia market growth will dominate however there are still a lot of unknowns.
