The Tussy sector of the Tatums field is located in parts of Tps. 1 N. and 1 S., R. 3 W., Garvin and Carter Counties, Oklahoma. Its production until 1951 was entirely from sandstones of the Deese group. The field is now in the development stage for the deeper lenticular Goodwin sandstone zone, the basal unit of the Springer group.

This paper attempts to explain why the four upper Springer sandstones are not productive in the Tussy sector, although they are well developed and associated with suitable structures for the trapping of oil. It is thought that the oil of the Springer sediments was formed, entered into the four upper Springer sandstones, which are of a blanket nature, and migrated up the dip into the Sholom Alechem area.

The present structure of the upper Springer sandstones was of later origin and had no bearing upon the trapping of Springer oil. This, of course, would not have affected the basal Springer sandstone zone (Goodwin), which was lenticular, its trap being of a sealed-reservoir type. Later structural movement would have altered these reservoirs only so far as their gas, oil, and water contacts were concerned.
