ABSTRACT
Many of the oil fields in the Gulf of Suez operated by GUPCO (a joint partnership between the Egyptian General Petroleum Company and Amoco Corporation's Egypt Business Unit) are mature, stratigraphically and structurally complex fields. Three-dimensional reservoir characterization models that include GIS query and extraction capabilities provide an advantage over traditional methods in ongoing efforts to exploit reserves in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The use of such technology by GUPCO's multidisciplinary asset management teams has resulted in successful exploitation of fields that were previously regarded as too complex to yield economic results. Application of the technology to one such field located in the southern Gulf of Suez is described here.
