ABSTRACT

Efficient management of all the data necessary to conduct large-scale exploration projects can be a massive and challenging undertaking. This chapter details the inefficiencies of traditional data-handling procedures, discusses some new and beneficial technological advances in information management, and outlines the application of a much-improved strategy to administer corporate data resources. The new process integrates geographic information systems (GIS) with the capabilities of the World Wide Web to facilitate a truer, more interconnected team approach. Its successful application is succinctly illustrated by an account of BP/Amoco's Venezuela Project.
