ABSTRACT
In recent years, geostatistics and stochastic modeling have made a tremendous impact on 
scientific
investigation. This chapter describes the relationship between these two ideas, provides a historical perspective on their development, and discusses the ways in which they have evolved, both separately and in concert with each other. Important issues impacting future development are also addressed.
