ABSTRACT

Use of geostatistics to address problems in the exploration and production segments of the petroleum industry is now steadily growing, due, in part, to increased awareness, incorporating better science in the development of contemporary techniques, greater access to advanced computer resources, and enhanced emphasis on interdisciplinary problem solving. This paper discusses some of the past barriers to the proliferation of the technology and enumerates key ingredients to the successful implementation of future geostatistical projects.
