Abstract:

Rock River oil field was discovered in May, 1918. The oil comes from the sands of the Dakota group (Cretaceous). Accumulation has been controlled by structure, but the water table plunges nearly 900 feet from the south to the north end of the field. Production holds up better in wells on the flanks of the structure than in wells higher structurally. The gravity of the oil is approximately 37° Be. Production to date has been more than 10,000,000 barrels, and it is thought that possibly as much more will be produced in the future.
