Article/Chapter: Use of Gravity Meter in Search for Stratigraphic Traps: Geologic Exploration Methods

Subject Group: Field Studies

Abstract:

The use of the gravity meter resulted in the discovery of 29 stratigraphic traps (reefs) in Michigan during the years 1952-1967. In the Denmark field, Morrow County, Ohio; the Wapella East reef, DeWitt County, Illinois; and the Redwater reef, Alberta, Canada, the gravity anomalies are largely due to the integrated effect of the density contrasts in compaction anticlines above the stratigraphic traps.
