Abstract:

The Bramberge oil field s situated in the Emsland oil province and produces from the Bentheim sandstone of middle Valanginian (Early Cretaceous) age. The stratigraphic trap is formed by an updip reduction of grain size and an increase in the shale content. The prospect materialized through a compilation of data from seismic information and wells drilled in the area for various exploration objectives. Attempts to find a similar accumulation in the vicinity were unsuccessful. At a late stage in exploration, the course of the "shale-out" line could be deduced from a seismic evaluation.
