Abstract:
Six oil fields have been found by seismic and subsurface methods on the northwest border of the Gifhorn trough in Lower Saxony, Northwest Germany. This paper primarily describes truncation traps found in Jurassic strata, in which subcrops are overlain by Lower Cretaceous strata.
Structure and faults complicate the location and delineation of the subcrops; shoestring sandstone bodies also are present. The success encountered in exploration for these traps is a good example of optimum geophysical and geological cooperation.
