Middle and Upper Ordovician sediments in northwest Georgia and northeast Alabama can be separated into three facies complexes. The northwestern complex is dominated by shallow water and peritidal carbonates, the central complex by red, peritidal clastics, and the southeastern complex by basinal black shales.
