Abstract:

As part of its long-term planning effort, Shell Oil Company and its subsidiaries make an annual forecast of conventional U.S. oil and gas resources remaining to be discovered. The forecast is based on a summation of forecasts for 234 separate provinces in the conterminous United States and Alaska. The most recent estimate (mean value) is 55 billion bbl of oil and condensate and 310 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas remaining to be found. The methodology and assumptions used in preparing this forecast are reviewed and the results are compared with other published estimates.
