ABSTRACT

Petroleum-bearing beds thinner than 30 cm are difficult to identify on conventional well logs. Especially in the case of a regular alternation of sandstone and shale, as in many turbidite sequences, recognition of individual sandstone and shale beds can be extremely difficult. Well-log processing techniques such as alpha processing or Previous HitdeconvolutionTop have been developed to address this issue but are of limited help. Therefore, formation evaluation in thin-bedded low-resistivity pay sands is cumbersome, as are geological interpretation and correlation.
