Abstract:

Analysis of the geology of the Soviet sector of the Pacific mobile belt, on the basis of a structural-formation map, permits distinction of four major complexes: Verkhoyansk-Chukotsk folded region, Amur folded region, Nippon geosynclinal region, and East Asian volcanogenic belt. Each complex is characterized by distinctive suites of rocks related to its tectonic setting and history. Study of the spatial and temporal distribution of igneous rocks shows that magmatic processes commonly develop monotypically in different tectonic settings.

The relation of mineral resources to rock types is being studied, but few predictions can be made on the basis of formation analysis at present.
