Book Title: SG 13: Uranium in Volcanic and Volcaniclastic Rocks

Article/Chapter: Experimental Leaching of Volcanic Glass: Implications For Evaluation of Glassy Volcanic Rocks as Sources of Uranium

Subject Group: Energy Minerals, Etc.

Spec. Pub. Type: Studies in Geology

Pub. Year: 1981

Author(s): Robert A. Zielinski

Abstract:

Samples of natural and synthetic volcanic glass undergo open-system leaching by aerated alkaline solutions at controlled temperatures, pressures and flow rates. Results aid in identification of likely mechanisms for uranium leaching and evaluate relative influences of variables affecting the removal rate of uranium for glasses. Geologic environments most favorably suited for uranium removal are determined and ranked.
