Abstract:
A total magnetic intensity survey in the southern Gulf of California revealed a close association between topography and the magnetic anomalies. Negative anomalies were found over steep scarps. Positive anomalies were found over the basins, hilly topography, and island ridges. The anomaly pattern is northwest-southeast, the same as the pattern of topographic features. Size and shape of anomalies indicate the magnetic rock is in the second crustal layer and has considerable relief on its surface.
