Chapter 120: Sand Injectites in Deep-water Clastic Reservoirs: Are They There and Do They Matter?

Andrew Hurst, Mads Huuse, Joe Cartwright, Davide Duranti

Abstract

Sand injectites are common features of deep-water clastic depositional systems. Many sand injectites are routinely overlooked and/or misinterpreted in subsurface studies, although detectable on seismic or borehole data. If identified, their significance is frequently underestimated and, except where now known to be of significance, are not incorporated into dynamic models of reservoir behavior. We provide illustrations of some of the most spectacular outcrops of sand injectites, which are analogs to subsurface reservoir- and intrareservoir-scale occurrences.
