Use of Microresistivity Image Logs in Detailed Reservoir Architecture Reconstruction of Glenn Sandstone, Glenn Pool Field, Northeastern Oklahoma

Abstract

The Glenn Sandstone (Sand), a fluvial-dominated deltaic system equivalent to the Pennsylvanian Bartlesville Sandstone, is the principal reservoir in Glenn Pool field. After nearly nine decades of production, only 21% of the estimated OOIP has been recovered from the 160-acre Self Unit, the focus of this study. The low recovery is clearly attributed to the complex lithologic heterogeneity of the Glenn Sandstone.

Analysis of microresistivity image logs, calibrated to detailed core description, provides constraints for detailed facies architectural reconstruction. Examples given are well location and predicted interwell heterogeneity with in a lateral accretion bar, and subdivision of a crevasse splay complex. In each case, this detailed reconstruction provides insight to the location of unswept oil remaining in the Glenn Sandstone.
