Abstract
Mineralization in the Fort Hall Mining District, Bannock County, Idaho
Abstract
The Fort Hall mining district lies within the Bannock, Pocatello and Portneuf Ranges of southeastern Idaho and produced small quantities of copper in the early 1900’s. The principal ore minerals were chalcopyrite and copper carbonates (malachite and azurite) that were present locally in quartz- and calcite-filled fractures and some brecciated fault zones. Two possible sources of metals are proposed; the Bannock Volcanic Member of the Pocatello Formation and granitic dikes that were discovered to have primary copper mineralization.
