Volcanic Geology and Mineralization Western Bull Valley Mountains, Utah

Fred W. Limbach, Arthur J. Pansze

Abstract

Rocks in the western Bull Valley Mountains are inter-stratified Tertiary ash-flow tuffs and andesites. Complex sets of normal faults offset the volcanic rocks and localized large areas of fracturing and hydrothermal alteration. The alteration is progressively zoned. Small veins of quartz and calcite cut altered rocks. Anomalous concentrations of gold, silver, and other metals occur in veins and locally in altered rocks. Alteration and mineralization are interpreted as products of a shallow hydrothermal system.
