Potential Economic Mineralization in the Uinta Mountains, Northeastern Utah

G. R. Conn

Abstract

While no major ore deposits have yet been recognized in the Uinta Mountains, the range does host enough mineral shows and related characteristics to suggest the potential for the presence of economic deposits. Likely areas for the economic development of mineralization are along the major structures, especially the North and South Flank fault zones. These fault zones are also favorably located adjacent to the Green River and Uinta Basins. These basins could allow the development of deep hydrothermal convection cells and tapping of basinal brines, particularly in the Uinta Basin. Specific potential exploration targets may include Kipushi-type Cu-Pb-Zn targets in the Carbonate district and the Dal Cuinn prospect, emerald veins along the South Flank fault, and unconformity uranium-gold potential in the Red Creek area.
