Abstract
Basinal Lower Permian Facies, Permian Basin: Part I - Stratigraphy Of The Wolfcampian-Leonardian Boundary
Abstract
The Wolfcampian-Leonardian series boundary in the Permian Basin is placed at the top of a regionally persistent black shale section (“Wolfcamp Shale Marker”) as originally proposed by Wilde (1975) and Jeary (1978). Fusulinids above this marker belong to the Schwagerina crassitectoria assemblage zone, which indicates the Leonardian age of the Dean and Third Bone Spring Sandstones and subjacent section above the Wolfcamp Shale Marker. Below this marker are found fusulinid types characteristic of the Wolfcampian.
