A Review of the Pennsylvanian SACROC Unit

Michael A. Raines, John K. Dobitz, Scott C. Wehner

Abstract

Kinder Morgan CO2 Company, L. P. (KMCO2) took over operation of the SACROC Unit during the year 2000. This Previous HitfieldNext Hit has had an extensive oil production life span, with primary development in the early 1950’s, secondary recovery operations starting in 1954, and tertiary recovery efforts beginning in 1972. Current production operations are focused primarily on the central portions of the Previous HitfieldNext Hit, and employing modern CO2 flooding concepts.

The northern portion of the unit exhibits complex flow characteristics which cross-cut apparent flow units. Therefore, the development of this portion of the Previous HitfieldTop is being deferred until a more rigorous flow model can be developed. The geologic tools available include fusulinid time markers, seismic data, sequence stratigraphic concepts, cores, and log data.
