Reconditioning Previous HitSeismicNext Hit Previous HitDataNext Hit for Improved Reservoir Characterization, Lower Clear Fork and Wichita, Fullerton Field, West Texas

Hongliu Zeng, Stephen C. Ruppel, Rebecca H. Jones

Abstract

Poststack Previous HitseismicNext Hit Previous HitdataNext Hit contain a tremendous amount of information about reservoir stratigraphy, sedimentology, and physical properties. However, this information is far from fully utilized because of (1) the lack of understanding of the relationship between geology and its Previous HitseismicNext Hit responses and (2) poorly conditioned Previous HitseismicNext Hit Previous HitdataNext Hit that fail to express the geology in a way geologists can understand. Geology-guided reconditioning of Previous HitseismicNext Hit Previous HitdataNext Hit is the key to improve extraction of relevant geologic information. At Fullerton Field, the most convenient and useful tools for Previous HitdataNext Hit reconditioning are phase shifting and high-frequency enhancement. A simple Previous HitseismicNext Hit phase rotation (to 90°) reconditions Previous HitseismicNext Hit Previous HitdataNext Hit for impedance representation, roughly linking Previous HitseismicNext Hit amplitude directly to log lithology and porosity. High-frequency enhancement raises the dominant frequency of Previous Hit3-DNext Hit Previous HitseismicNext Hit Previous HitdataNext Hit from 30 to 50 Hz, significantly improving Previous HitseismicNext Hit resolution. More accurate and finer scale Previous HitseismicNext Hit mapping of reservoir parameters is achieved from progressive inversion that seamlessly integrates the geologic interpretation of well-Previous HitseismicNext Hit Previous HitdataNext Hit and model-based Previous HitseismicTop inversion for high-resolution (20 ft) impedance models.
