Abstract
This paper presents a brief overview of the largest and most economically significant aquifers located in the western portion of the state of Texas, a brief overview of the anticipated future demands for water within the state, and an even briefer overview of the economic potential available from the marketing of this significant resource. As in the production of oil and gas, the problems effecting the commercial exploitation of this resource are access and transportation to market. Individuals familiar with the petroleum industry will be at a distinct advantage because of the similarities between the leasing, production, transportation, and marketing of petroleum and groundwater.
