Abstract
The Delaware Basin Barnett
Shale
: The Next Big
Shale
Play?
Abstract
The Barnett
Shale
in the Delaware Basin is a thick, organic-rich and thermally mature section located in Reeves, Culberson, and Pecos counties, Texas. Regional cross sections indicate a thick section of high resistivity black
shale
exists throughout the study area and extends northward into Eddy Co. New Mexico. Numerous sample, mud
gas
, and drilling shows occur throughout the entire Barnett section, which is 500’-1,000’ thick. The area in the last year has become an extremely active lease play, and could be a resource area equivalent to the Fort Worth Basin.
