WTGS 84 – 79 E – W Cross Section Midland Basin – Wolfberry Play East

Herb Wacker

Abstract

This presentation highlights the work of Ed Matchus, T. S. Jones and their team in 1984 when they used cuttings and electric logs to build a cross-section from El-Paso eastward past Colorado City, Texas. The focus is the asymmetric Midland Basin part of the crosssection. Key topics include the shape of the basin, the pay zones and oils. Cuttings from the Dean and the Wolfcamp intervals are described as pelletal and skeletal debris. Structure maps of the Ellenburger and the Tubb-Dean intervals are included. The conclusion of this presentation contains descriptions of the frac’s and water resources of the central Midland Basin.
