Abstract
Exploitation In and Around the Horseshoe Atoll, Northern Midland Basin
Abstract
The story of exploiting the Horseshoe Atoll in and around the northern Midland Basin is told from a sixty year perspective to emphasize that discovery is driven by thought. Modern technology is a valuable tool but no substitute for the mind. Productive prospects are generated with knowledge and expertise, observation and analysis, and broad applications. Think of interpreting an isolated feature as a regional trend. The Horseshoe Atoll is a series of islands or fields separated by surge channels that are nearly equidistant. This idea became a model for the successful extension of more than eight fields in the Horseshoe Atoll.
Technological advancements continue to enhance and refine. Thinking still leads the way to discovery. Discovery teaches us how little we know. The Permian Basin’s greatest potential is unknown.
