Energen Resources Glasscock County Horizontal Wolfcamp Development Program

Greg Wilson

Abstract

Energen is in the first phase of a horizontal development program of the Wolfcamp Shale play in south-central Glasscock County. This first phase is focused on developing two of potentially five or more horizontal benches in the Spraberry Trend section. This presentation will describe what we have done so far, some of what we have learned in the process, and what we hope to learn going forward.

Primary goals of this program are developing efficient drilling practices, optimizing stratigraphic lateral placement for fracture stimulations, and making the most efficient use of our acreage with lateral length and spacing. Determining the optimum well spacing is one of the most important tasks in the early stages of an unconventional reservoir development program, and one of the most challenging.

Practices developed in southern Glasscock County will be used as we begin development programs in other areas of the Midland Basin, and later in the Delaware Basin Wolfcamp Shales.
