Abstract
Abstract: Threading the Needle in the Permian Basin : A Case Study in the Use of Microseismic Evaluation in Determining Optimal Lateral
Well
Placement
Abstract
In addition to the heterogeneity found in unconventional reservoirs, Permian Basin operators must contend with significant variability in site specific
drilling
and production histories. Fracture propagation can be affected by offset depletions and frac jobs in both vertical and horizontal wells. Microseismic monitoring is an essential tool for modeling fracture geometry in this complex environment and defining reservoir conditions for both
well
and stage placement. The study reveals the results of a Spraberry and Wolfcamp
drilling
program in the Midland Basin, using microseismic data to help best develop the acreage.
