Abstract
The entire industry is rushing headfirst into finding, analyzing, evaluating, delineating, and optimizing our plays. In the continual competitive race to capture the largest acreage position, drill the most productive wells (and make the best Investor Presentations), we may be taking too many short-cuts in the scientific method and jumping to conclusions much too quickly. The greatest challenge we face today as geoscientists, as an industry, is in the gathering, managing and analysis of huge volumes of data.
How are we gathering our data and how are we managing it for quality control? How do we analyze our data and what conclusions do we draw from it? Do we really take the time to let the data “speak to us”? Are we always doing “good science” and are we applying it correctly?
