Abstract
A methodology to produce a phase dependent spectral attribute shows an improvement in accurately mapping
seismic
discontinuities over conventional geometrical
attributes
. The presented workflow minimizes windowing effects (both temporally and laterally) observed in industry standard
attributes
, generally caused by energy leakage, generating uncertainty in the actual position of the discontinuity. This allows the interpreter to have an image that more clearly reflects the structural features captured by the
seismic
data. Furthermore, other
attributes
derived from the proposed methodology produce powerful tools to quickly interpret discontinuities, both temporally and laterally. Examples are shown with a focus on unconventional plays, in which fault detection and fracture system characterization present a key element to better understand the reservoir.”
